Rudram 11 - Western Cape, April 2026

Where Ancient Vedic Sound Meets the Stillness of Meditation.

In April 2026, Vedas4All returned once again to one of Cape Town's most peaceful and welcoming spaces — the Cape Town Meditation Centre (CTMed) in Table View — for another deeply moving Rudram 11.

This was not our first time here, and that in itself says something beautiful. The Cape Town Meditation Centre has become a cherished home for this sacred gathering — a place where the ancient vibrations of the Sri Rudram are received with open hearts and genuine reverence.

A Meeting of Two Great Traditions

CTMed is a non-profit meditation centre rooted in Thai-inspired Buddhist meditation practices, with a mission of fostering harmony and inner peace for all of Africa. Their commitment to selfless service, community, and the inner life resonates deeply with the universal values that the Vedas have always championed.

Two ancient wisdom traditions — one rooted in the Vedic sounds of India, the other in the meditative practices of the Buddhist lineage — came together in that space not as strangers, but as kindred spirits. Different paths, one destination: stillness, service, and the peace that lies within.

The Chanting Fills the Space

Chanters and devotees gathered in the serene surroundings of the Centre as the Sri Rudram was offered eleven complete times — wave upon wave of sacred sound rising and filling the room, spilling outward into the neighbourhood, into the city, into the atmosphere of the Mother City itself.

The Sri Rudram is not merely a chant. It is a recognition that the Divine is present in every particle of creation — in fire, in water, in trees, in every living being. To chant it is to offer a prayer of gratitude and healing on behalf of all life. As Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba reminded us:

"We can purify the atmosphere of the world by chanting the Vedas. The Rishis in ancient times used to move in the forest and chant the powerful Vedic mantras to purify the atmosphere of the whole world."

Closing in Stillness — A Meditation with the Monks

What made this gathering particularly special was how it concluded. After the chanting, the monks of the Cape Town Meditation Centre graciously led all those present through a 15-minute guided meditation — rooted in their own tradition and practice.

It was a moment of profound completeness. The Rudram had stirred and purified the atmosphere; the meditation allowed everyone to settle into that stillness, to go inward and receive what the sound had awakened. Chanting and meditation, after all, are two expressions of the same inner journey — one using sacred sound as the vehicle, the other using silence.

For many present, those 15 minutes were among the most peaceful of the entire afternoon.

A Partnership Worth Celebrating

We are deeply grateful to the Cape Town Meditation Centre and its monks for their continued warmth, generosity, and spirit of interfaith openness. In a world that so often emphasises what divides us, spaces like CTMed — and gatherings like this — quietly demonstrate what unites us.

CTMed's Sunday meditation sessions are free and open to everyone, every week at 107 Blaauwberg Road, Table View — and we encourage anyone in the Western Cape to visit this remarkable centre.

To all the chanters, devotees, and volunteers who made this gathering possible — thank you. The Mother City is all the richer for it.

🙏 Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu May all beings in all worlds be happy.
