On 7 February 2026, Vedas4All was honoured to host the first Rudram 11 in KwaZulu-Natal — a deeply moving milestone in our journey to bring the healing vibrations of the Vedas to every corner of South Africa.
The sacred gathering took place at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Westridge, Berea — a place where inner stillness meets outer beauty, and where the spirit of selfless service is woven into every wall and corridor.
What is a Rudram 11?
The Sri Rudram is regarded as the crest jewel of the Vedas — an ancient universal prayer not for any one religion or community, but for the happiness and wellbeing of all of creation. In the words of one ancient verse:
"Where a devout reciter of the Rudram lives, be it in a village or town, that place will be free from disease, drought, thefts and other ills."
A Rudram 11 — known in Sanskrit as a Rudra Ekadasini — is the complete Sri Rudram chanted eleven times, each chanting paired with the corresponding Anuvaka of the Chamakam. It is far more than a religious ritual. It is a vibrational offering to Mother Nature and the living world — a collective act of service that benefits the community, the city, the country, and the universe at large.
The Power of Coming Together
Chanters and devotees from BAPS gathered in the peaceful and serene surroundings of the Mandir to create something truly extraordinary — a unified field of sacred sound that was felt not just in the ears, but in the heart.
When voices come together in conscious, focused chanting, the effect is profound. Science is only beginning to understand what the ancient Rishis already knew: sound has the power to heal, to purify, and to transform. As Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba taught:
"We can purify the atmosphere of the world by chanting the Vedas. The Rishis in ancient times used to move in the forest and chant the powerful Vedic mantras to purify the atmosphere of the whole world."
Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is a global socio-spiritual organisation with its roots firmly in the Vedic tradition. It beautifully integrates rigorous spiritual practice — bhakti, meditation, and yoga — with direct social service and community welfare.
BAPS embodies the timeless Vedic principle that inner purity and outer service are inseparable. Their "faith in action" model — where worship and ethical living translate directly into service to humanity — resonates deeply with the universal values that the Vedas have always championed.
It was therefore not only fitting but deeply meaningful that this Rudram 11 found its home in a BAPS Mandir. Two traditions, one heart — united in the conviction that the Divine is present in every particle of creation, and that serving humanity is the highest form of worship.
As Vedas4All continues its mission to take the Vedas to every household in South Africa, gatherings like this remind us of why we began: because these ancient sounds belong to everyone — regardless of religion, background, language, or belief.
To the wonderful devotees of BAPS Westridge — thank you for your warmth, your hospitality, and your spirit of seva. You made this a truly sacred beginning.
🙏 Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu May all beings in all worlds be happy.
